16 Easy Pattern Ideas For coloring
Here are some easy pattern ideas for your coloring books. Coming up with pattern ideas can make or break a coloring page, especially if you want something that’s relaxing but not boring. Simple patterns like stripes, dots, waves, and checkers add texture and interest without being too hard to draw or fill in.
These kinds of patterns work really well in background areas or on things like clothing, leaves, or walls inside a coloring book page. You can also use them for things like curtains, clothing and other things in your coloring books.

I use these kinds of patterns all the time in my own pages. Sometimes I’ll even flip through finished pages just to grab ideas I liked from before. It’s an easy way to make your coloring feel more creative without having to overthink it.
If you’re ever stuck, just pick one pattern and repeat it. It’s way more fun than it sounds. Scroll down to the bottom of this post to watch the video and see how they are made.

This one’s great for fall outfits or cozy curtains. I did a simple plaid and added white gel pen lines on top.

3. Hearts Pattern
Perfect for pajamas or anything cozy. I used a dark blue background and filled it with white hearts and tiny white dots.

4. Yellow & Green Plaid
This one has a fun, fresh vibe. The yellow and green make it feel kind of retro, especially if you add a few white lines.

5. Polka Dots
You can use any color combo with this one. Try light pink and red, or go bold with teal and black, whatever fits your page.

6. Circles
These look almost like bubbles or pebbles. Fill the page or just use it in a corner, it’s super relaxing to draw.
