Supplies I Used

For this page I kept my supplies simple. You really do not need a lot to enjoy adult coloring books, and even a small set of markers can create beautiful results.

1. Pick a page you love

The first step is choosing a page that makes you smile. Maybe it’s a cozy scene, a cute character, or a floral design. Whatever makes you excited to color. Picking a page you enjoy makes coloring feel playful and relaxing, which is the whole point of adult coloring books! I’m doing this cute galaxy themed page. After you pick your page, put a scrap piece of paper behind it so that the colors don’t bleed through.

2. Choose your colors

Next, grab a few colors you want to use. I like to start with a base palette that feels bright and fun. In my process, I’m using Ohuhu alcohol markers for the base color, which fill in spaces smoothly and make the page pop. Later, I go over parts with Bandle B acrylic markers, Artistro acrylic markers and Sakura white gel pens to add tiny details, highlights, and extra personality. Choosing your colors ahead of time helps the page look balanced while still letting you play around with fun combinations.

3. Fill in the large spaces first

Start with the bigger areas of your page. Filling large sections first makes the design come together quickly, and it’s really satisfying to see the picture start to take shape. Using alcohol markers here gives a smooth, vibrant base that will make your details and highlights stand out.

4. Color in shadows

After the base is filled in, it’s time to add shadows. Darkening certain areas gives depth and makes the shapes look more dynamic. Shadows are a simple way to make your coloring pop and give your page a little extra life.

5. Add more details

I like to use acrylic markers to add details, patterns, and bright highlights. These little touches make each page feel unique, playful, and totally full of personality. In this coloring page, I’m adding some dots in several colors and then also some bright white dots to make it look like a fun galaxy sky. Acrylic markers will go over alcohol markers perfectly to really bring out the colors.

6. Add patterns with a white gel pen

Finally, I like to go over areas like the scarf and add fun patterns. I’m making some flowers and circles on the scarf to give it extra charm. Using a white gel pen is perfect for this because it pops against the base colors and adds a cute, playful finish. Don’t be afraid to doodle little designs, it makes the page feel truly yours! This is one of my favorite coloring tricks.
